West Edmonton Mall

and other very recent news

My very good buddies; Edward, Ryan, Matt and Billy - drove up to Red Deer all the way from Toronto to visit for a week. They arrived bright and early Saturday morning (with almost no warning!).

I want to start off this first BLOG with something that will pertain to all following blogs.

While at the mall, we visited the Chapters. It wasn't any more special than any other Chapters in any other mall, except for the fact that I found a book that really stood out to me:

How to succeed in ANYTHING BY really trying
"How to succeed in ANYTHING BY really trying"...

Now, financially I'm in no position to go around spending money on leisurely things like 'books'. So I read a chapter and a half, in Chapters. (How terrible would it be to admit to the world right here, on my Music web-site that I'm downloading the book... and not in fact purchasing it?)... You didn't hear that from me.

Anyways. This book immediately stood out to me because of a good family friend of mine Brandon Sousa. Brandon (AKA: Brando the PROMO DYNAMO), performed in the satire musical titled 'How to succeed in Business without really trying' which this book 'parodies' (So to speak).

The first chapter of this book was very inspiring to me. Not many of you know this, but I've been progressively becoming more and more frustrated with people (in general) who don't do anything, and expect things to fall on their laps. My entire philosophy with music, relationships, friendship, and life in general is a basic law of physics. You will never get more out, than you put in. (Conservation of mass and energy). It is a strange application of the law, but it does work. I really enjoyed the first chapter of this book. I'm going to do my best to finish reading it (maybe I'll hit up the library) and someday soon I will write a quick review up for it and post it on this Blog. (Hopefully by then I will have figured out how to append new blog posts under this one so that it looks attached ... or if I can't do that ... I will add it as a comment)

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEST EDMONTON MALL

We tackled the IKEA in Edmonton first. Kelly and I needed a new fitted sheet for our bed. The poor guys had to witness first hand how boring we actually are! We found some amazing floor mats, and picked up a dresser drawer which Ryan and myself built with finesse.

After IKEA it was straight to WEM. When we got over the shock and awe of the shear size of the place, we decided to go skating! It's been about over 5 years since any of us (with the exception of Billy) have gone skating. It was... interesting... No one fell down!!! But I'm sure we all looked silly... and my feet still hurt!

The next highlights were the Hermit Crabs. I'm certain Edward was THE MOST impressed with these little guys. They had custom paint jobs. One looked like superman, one like batman, and another was decorated as the Canadian Flag.

Instantly after playing with the shellfish, Matt found a Great White Whale statue/display. Here he is with his whale friend. This was hilarious for all of us because throughout Matthew's University (Cornell), he is known as being the 'Whale Guy'. But what made this even more hilarious was that no more than 30' away, we found what looked like a 'Fool' or 'Jester', which is double hilarious because throughout Matt's University experience at University of Toronto, he was known as the 'Shakespearean fool critic'. (or something along those lines, Matt... Feel free to correct me on either of these notes).

After all of that excitement, we decided to settle down and grab some grub. This was the guy's first experience at EARLS, an awesome restaurant popular in western Canada. The food was DELICIOUS.

Then, the long drive home - where Ryan had his first 'run in' with Mini-Horses. (about 20 of them).

(Hopefully in the next couple of hours I will be able to upload some photos of the mall to the photos section of this site. There will be a direct link locally. - HERE - )
